SOAR Programme – Protecting Places of Worship in Europe

SOAR stands for ‘Strengthening the security and resilience of at-risk religious sites and communities’ programme. We, Enhancing Faith Institutions (EFI) are the lead partner of this EU-funded project and we are working alongside our European project partners Finn Church Aid and Architects’ Council of Europe. The project is supported by the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations.

A key component of the programme is to advance the protection of religious sites by implementing a ‘security by design’ (SBD) concept. Providing time for experts in our trainings to discuss this concept and its importance, makes it a key aspect of the SOAR programme.

Protecting Places of Worship in Europe

The ‘Strengthening the security and resilience of at-risk religious sites and communities’ (SOAR) programme contributes to advancing the protection and safeguarding of places for worship. The network of the partnership is extensive and includes representatives from all majority and minority faiths practicing within the EU.

A key component of the programme is to advance the protection of religious sites by implementing ‘security by design’ (SBD) concept.

The SOAR project is excited to officially launch the SOAR Security by Design (SBD) app for Places of Worship across Europe.
This is a first of its kind app for Places of Worship to better understand the security risks & the solutions available to them to enhance their security and protect their buildings & communities. The SOAR SBD App involves detailed interaction, gamification with score updates and allows you to select a variety of places of worships and languages.

Freedom of religion is an integral part of European values and attacks on places of worship are attacks on our societies and our values. Protecting the communities and places of worship in Europe is protecting our way of life.
